Hard to believe it has been almost 5 years  I refer to this storm as the Hurricane that snuck upon us.  Let me clarify, yes, we all knew that Harvey was going to affect our area. However, the rapid intensification before landfall is what I mean when I say 'snuck up.'  When Harvey made landfall around Rockport. Hurricane Harvey had exploded and went from a tropical depression to a major hurricane in around 40 hours. Not just a major hurricane but a category 4 major hurricane with peak gusts reported at 132 MPH.  Rockport took a direct hit on August 25th,2017. Entire city blocks were destroyed by the hurricane's violent eyewall winds.

In Victoria, peak gusts were measured at 83 miles per hour with isolated rain amounts of over 16 inches of rain in just 24 hours. I don't think anyone imagined the damage that Hurricane Harvey would cause in Victoria. I just remember driving back into town the day after and seeing widespread damage that made some areas unrecognizable. Not to mention, many Victorians were left without power, some for weeks.  We were without power for a little over a week. What I also remember is finding out what Texas strong stood for. It is hard to believe that it has been four years already. Let's take a look back at the damage that Hurricane Harvey caused in Victoria. SEE PHOTOS BELOW.

I would also like to take a moment to thank Michelle Robinson for her permission to use her photos on Facebook.
