I Quit! Texas Lands Near the Top for People Quitting Their Jobs

New data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that Texas ranks second in the country for people quitting their jobs.

According to a report from WFAA, Texas is among the leader in U.S. states for people quitting their jobs. Texas is right behind California, who tops the list. To be fair, the numbers are based on research from September but were just released from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The Numbers Don't Lie

According to the new data, the month of September saw 439,000 workers leave their jobs. By way of comparison, California, who tops the list, saw 443,000 people leave their jobs. That's a big jump from the October numbers of 370,000 quitters.

The good news here is it seems like most are quitting their current jobs and starting new careers elsewhere. September numbers also show that Texas had the largest drop in available jobs from August to September going from 887,000 to 807,000. Texas is below the number of unemployment claims from where we were before the COVID-19 pandemic.

So just because people are quitting their current jobs, that doesn't mean they are staying unemployed.

Texas is Hiring

So where are all the jobs in Texas? According to Burnett Specialists, Austin is the top city in Texas to live and work in with Dallas-Fort Worth at number 2 on this list. You may be surprised to learn that Killeen lands as the 6th best city to live and work in, in Texas.

Say What?

Yep! According to the report, Killeen has a much lower cost of living than the big cities and is still a drivable distance to either Austin or Dallas-Fort Worth. With Texas gas prices being among the lowest in the nation, you're not spending all those savings to fuel up.

So while Texans are quitting their current jobs in extremely high numbers, they are finding new work.

Top 20 Restaurants Central Texans Wish Would Come to Temple

A while back, I asked the good people of Temple if they could picture a good restaurant to fill the lot on North General Bruce Drive where the soon to be torn down Long John Silver's stood.

This was before it was announced that a Dutch Bros. Coffee location would open there (which was one of the places I predicted as a contender in our article).

So now Dutch Bros. is open in that spot, but the responses to my survey were interesting because they paint a picture of just how diverse Temple's population is. People recommended some familiar restaurants with locations in the surrounding area, but also a few I'd never even heard of.
