Can You Think of a Good Restaurant to Fill Temple’s Old Long John Silver’s?
It's been a few months since the Long John Silver's near Temple High School closed down, and now it looks like someone's ready to do something with the property.
I went to Chick-Fil-A for lunch Friday, and I was driving up Barton to get on North General Bruce, I noticed a backhoe on the old Long John's property and markers around the perimeter. There were also some restaurant fixtures outside.
Maybe they'll tear it down and resurrect LJS's with a newer, cleaner building. That would be ok I guess, but I'd love to see something new move in - something Temple doesn't already have. After all, there's another Long John's across town.
It's not a bad location. It's right next to I-35 and surrounded by other decent places to eat like Whataburger and Chick-Fil-A. Plus the La Quinta Inn is just behind it, so it'd see plenty of walk-up business.
Personally, I'm hoping to see a new restaurant open there.
Ideally, it'd be a locally owned eatery run by people right here in Temple. Nothing beats local. Tapa Tapas is less than a block away in the old Wendy's building, and I hear great things about it.
However, if a chain moves in, what should it be?
I could see a Dunkin' Donuts going in and giving Shipley a little healthy competition. Maybe someone could open a Dutch Bros. Coffee like in Killeen, or Peggy's Coffee House in the Mall could branch out with a new location on the north side of town. (Peggy's makes the finest cup of coffee in Temple, IMHO.)
For some reason I just picture a good coffee/breakfast place there. I guess because the Starbucks just up the block has been closed for a while now.
Since I'm obviously stuck in a caffeine and donut rut, let me know what you would want to see replace the old Long John Silver's in North Temple.
