Interstate 35 Is Ranked One of the 10 Deadliest Roads in Texas

I commute from Austin to Temple every day, and I see few accidents during my commute. However, if I could bypass Interstate 35 to get to and from home and the radio station, I would.

According to a new study, Interstate 35 is the deadliest road in Austin, and Interstate 20 is the deadliest in Texas.

Based on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data, MoneyGeek analyzed over 10,000 fatal crashes from 2017-2019 in Texas. Two hundred sixty-two of these occurred in Austin, resulting in 273 deaths. Additionally, there were 33 fatal accidents on I-35 in Austin.
Furthermore, a study found that drivers and passengers are more likely to die in drunken driving-related accidents than on the state's deadliest roads.

Twenty-five percent of the fatal accidents analyzed involved drunk driving. Only 2% of fatal accidents occurred on I-20.

214 crashes were recorded on I-20 over the three-year study period, which runs over 600 miles from east to west across Texas.

19% of fatal crashes in Austin were caused by drunk driving. I-35 accounts for just under 13% of fatal accidents in Austin.

The study also named I-35 one of the deadliest five-mile stretches of road in Texas. Other roads included the Stemmons Freeway in Dallas, Tomball Parkway in Houston, and Texas 183 through Irving, Fort Worth, and Euless.

MoneyGeek also mentioned Interstate 14  as the deadliest road in the Temple, Belton, and Killeen area.

119 fatal crashes were recorded in bell county.

Also, 131 deaths were recorded on Interstate 14. 34 deaths were caused by drunk driving, which put it at 25 percent of the deaths.

When I get on the highway, I am always cautious of my surroundings, and I try to drive as defensively as possible.
