Meet Iris Rodriguez, An Alleged Sex Offender Wanted in Texas
There is perhaps no greater crime than an adult in a position of authority taking advantage of a child. That's what police say Iris Rodriguez did while acting as a counselor at a school in Laredo, Texas, and she's been on the run rather than facing her day in court.
Police: Iris Iliana Rodriguez Abused Her Position to Prey Upon a Child
According to the Texas Department Of Public Safety, Rodriguez was working as a counselor for Child, Adolescent and Parent Services (CAPS), and was hired by the Border Region Behavioral Health Center in Laredo. Her position there allowed her to visit a student at school who was displaying behavioral problems.
Police say Rodriguez was supposed to be offering guidance and support to the student, but instead had several instances of inappropriate contact with them.
On January 15th, 2015, Web County officials issued warrants for her arrest. Charges included 3 counts of Indecency with a Child, Unlawful Restraint, and 3 counts of Harassment. Following the warrant issuing, police went to her place of residence to arrest her on the counts listed.
When law enforcement arrived at Rodriguez's home, they couldn't find her. Investigators believe she fled to avoid prosecution for her alleged crimes.
Since then, Rodriguez has not been seen, and more warrants for the crimes of Flight To Avoid and Indecency w/ a Child-Sexual Contact were also issued.
