It was announced this morning that Lee Corso will be retiring this year. He will be doing one more College Gameday before he calls it a career and it looks like a big Longhorns game in week one could be the place for it.

College Gameday has been a staple of ESPN since 1987. The show really took off in 1993 when they started doing the show live at the college campuses throughout the country. Since 1987, one man has been a part of the show since it kicked off and that would be Lee Corso.

The man known for wearing the giant mascot heads when he would pick what team he thought would win that day announced this morning he's going to retire. Corso will do one final College Gameday on August 30, 2025. Now ESPN has not announced where they will do this final episode for Corso, but many are speculating it's between three games.

  • Alabama VS Florida State
  • Tennessee VS Syracuse (Game Being Played in Atlanta)
  • Texas VS Ohio State

Week one of the college football season typically does not have the most 'exciting' match ups. Many teams like to start their season with an easier opponent. When it comes to actual compelling match ups, these are the only three that many are considering ESPN to go visit. It would be fitting for Corso to do one more College Gameday for Ohio State for this sole reason.

Back in October of 1995, Lee Corso got a hold of the Brutus head and picked Ohio State over Penn State. Ohio State won 38-7 and thus the tradition was born. It would be very fitting for the first mascot head to be Brutus and the final mascot head to be Brutus. Corso has worn the Brutus head 48 times throughout his career, which is the most he has ever done for one school.

Since Ohio State are the National Champions as well, it would make sense for College Gameday to pick this venue for Corso's last show. We will have to wait and see.
