A 79-year-old woman was removed from a flight in Turkey on November 3rd after a heated dispute over a tuna sandwich. The incident occurred aboard a Jet2 flight traveling from London to Bodrum, where the woman, accompanied by her daughter, refused to pay for a $12 tuna sandwich that she claimed was frozen in the middle.

According to reports, the woman ordered the sandwich but found it partially frozen when she attempted to eat it. She disputed the airline’s insistence on payment, arguing that the sandwich was not in an acceptable condition. The situation escalated when the airline insisted that she still pay because the sandwich had been opened, and the dispute led to an exchange of words between the passenger and the crew.

When the plane landed, four armed police officers were waiting for the woman and her daughter. They were escorted off the aircraft, and the incident sparked widespread attention when the woman was quoted saying, “I think I’ve been arrested over a sandwich.” Despite the dramatic scene, no charges were filed.

Jet2 defended its actions, stating that the woman had been "unruly" and had consumed her own alcohol during the flight, which violated airline policy. However, the woman strongly denied the allegation, calling it a “disgusting lie.” In a statement, the airline reiterated its zero-tolerance policy on disruptive behavior and emphasized its commitment to passenger and crew safety.

In response, the woman's daughter filed a formal complaint, criticizing Jet2 for their handling of the situation. The airline maintains that it acted appropriately and stands by its decision.

The incident highlights the tension that can arise over even minor disputes during air travel, with both sides maintaining starkly different accounts of the events.
