Dallas Stars Make Trade for Their First Ever Texas Born Player
For the first time ever, a Dallas Star will be wearing the jersey from someone who was actually born in Texas.
Being an NHL player from Texas is extremely rare. Only fourteen players have started a regular season game in the NHL from the Lone Star State. You can check them out below. The Stars have been here since 1993 and have never had a player from Texas on the official roster, until today!
The Dallas Stars Have Acquired a Texan!
The red hot Dallas Stars currently on a ten game win streak made a trade today before the deadline on Friday. The Stars traded two picks to Vancouver for Tyler Myers. The Houston born hockey player has been in the league since 2009. He has also played for the Winnipeg Jets and Buffalo Sabres.
Tyler Myers is Known as 'Big Tex'
Dallas is already home to Big Tex over at the State Fair, but when Tyler came into the league in 2009. Players learned about him being born in Texas and his height of six feet 8 inches earned him the nickname of the popular cowboy in Big D. Apparently fans in Vancouver have also called him the 'Chaos Giraffe' because of his height.
Dallas Stars Have Two Other Texas Players in the Minors
The Dallas Stars have two other players technically in their organization. Both of them have only played preseason games for the Stars and have no official NHL playing time. However, Cross Hanas who was actually born in Dallas and Stefan Noesen of nearby Plano (maybe future home of the Dallas Stars) have both played in the preseason for the team.
Best of luck to Tyler on his future with the Dallas Stars and welcome back to Texas!
