The Highest Paid State Employee In Texas Just Might Get Fired Soon
The State's Highest Paid Employee Is Officially On The Hot Seat.
While its hard to figure out what state employees are making since no Texas state agency provides a centralized website with all salaries. But a recent study showed that one of the state's highest paid employees is a football coach.
The Lone Star State is known for its passion for sports, and it's no surprise that college football holds a special place in the hearts of many Texans.
With that fervor comes substantial investments in coaching staff, and as a result, Texas boasts some of the highest-paid college coaches in the nation.
The state's fervent support for college sports ensures that these coaches are well-compensated for their hard work, dedication, and ability to lead their teams to victory.
While their salaries may raise eyebrows, they symbolize the importance of college football in the fabric of Texas culture and the immense pride that Texans take in their teams. As long as football remains a cherished tradition in the Lone Star State, top-dollar coaching contracts are sure to persist.
At the top of the list is Jimbo Fisher, the head football coach at Texas A&M University.
Fisher, who previously coached at Florida State, signed a historic 10-year, $75 million contract with the Aggies in 2017.
This staggering deal makes him not only the highest-paid coach in Texas but one of the highest-paid coaches in the entire NCAA. Fisher signed a four-year extension with Texas A&M in August 2021 that tied him to the school through the 2031 season.
His contract also makes him the 8th highest paid state employee in America but there's trouble for Fisher.
According to Bleacher Report, Fisher is on the hot seat and there's talk of the university and its boosters could pay out a $76.8 million buyout in his contract if he's fired in-season during the 2023 campaign if things get worse for the Aggies who sit at 4-2.
