According to TDT News, Belton, Texas, will hold a candlelight vigil and remembrance ceremony to honor lives lost to suicide on Thursday, September 25, at 6:30 PM, at the Fallen Officer Memorial, 711 E. 2nd St.

Recognizing Suicide Prevention Month can be emotionally taxing for many. It’s not an easy topic, but it’s incredibly important that it is talked about. Events like this help ensure that survivors, families, and the broader community feel heard, supported, and aware.
The candlelight vigil organizers have also extended a warm invitation to suicide attempt survivors and family members to share a few words or memories in honor of their loved ones during the ceremony. This event is sponsored by Central County Services, and Belton Mayor David Leigh is scheduled to speak.

Recent data shows that more than 43,000 Americans died by suicide in the past year, with over 1.5 million suicide attempts reported. These numbers highlight the urgent need for awareness, prevention, and community support. Local outreach organization LOSS (Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors) noted that there are currently only 14 active LOSS teams in Texas. Central County Services is actively seeking volunteers to expand this support network.
