Texas vs. New Mexico: Which State Gives Dads Work-Life Balance?

Father’s Day is a time to appreciate the work dads do, but if you’re a working dad in Texas and New Mexico - well, that’s not a great thing, according to a new study from WalletHub.

The study ranks all 50 states and Washington, D.C. from best to worst when it comes to THE place to be for working dads.

Unfortunately, the Lone Star State and New Mexico don’t rank well. In fact, New Mexico is last. I mean dead last. Number 51 out of 51.

Texas isn’t much better, coming in at No. 37. Heck, even nearby Arizona is at No. 40.

Your best bet anywhere near the Southwest is Colorado, which at least cracks the top 30 at No. 29.

But what is this really all about?

The study comes up with the rankings by taking 23 measures into account, including economic and social well-being, work-life balance, child care, and health.

Of that group, Texas ranks best (No. 26) in the child care category. It also comes in at No. 29 in the economic and social well-being category. But Texas really takes a hit in work-life balance and health, coming in at No. 42 for both. Texas is also No. 51 with the highest rate of uninsured males.

New Mexico is dead last thanks in large part to coming in dead last in the economic and social well-being category. The Land of Enchantment’s best ranking came in the work-life balance category (No. 33).
