June 28th Shines A Light On Country Music Milestones
Country Music had some significant events throughout history on this day, June 28th. Here are just a few of them.
Kellie Pickler
Back in 1986, Kellie Pickler was born in Albemarle, North Carolina. She got her big break when she showed up on the fifth season of American Idol, and her strong voice and fun personality helped her launch a country music career even though she didn’t win. Songs like “Red High Heels” and “Best Days of Your Life” made her a fan favorite.
Alan Jackson
In 1994, Alan Jackson dropped his fifth album, Who I Am, and it quickly became his second album to hit #1. If you’ve ever heard “Livin’ on Love” or “Gone Country,” they came from this record. Who I Am helped Alan stay at the top of the country charts through the '90s.
Tim McGraw
In 1999, Tim McGraw released one of his biggest hits, “Something Like That.” You might know it as the “barbecue stain on my white T-shirt” song. It became his tenth #1 hit, and "Something Like That" is still one of those songs people sing along to whenever it comes on.
Miranda Lambert
Finally, in 2010, Miranda Lambert hit #1 with “The House That Built Me.” It’s an emotional song about going back to the place you grew up and remembering where you came from. It quickly became one of her most loved songs.
June 28th has been a big deal in country music for a long time. It has consistently delivered stars, stories, and songs that people still connect with today.
