Jury In Trial Of Fort Hood Shooter Nidal Hasan Reaches Verdict

The jury set to decide the fate of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan has reached a verdict.

Hasan has been found guilty of all charges. The sentencing phase will begin Monday at 9 a.m.. In order for Hasan to receive the death penalty, he had to be found unanimously guilty of at least one count of premeditated murder. He was found unanimously guilty on all the charges he faced.

After years of delays, the trial had been expected to last weeks or even months. However, the defendant did not interview prosecution witnesses, rested his case without calling any witnesses of his own and ultimately declined to give any sort of closing statement.

Hasan’s November 5, 2009 attack on Fort Hood’s Soldier Readiness Processing Center left 13 people dead and over 30 injured. Among the dead was a pregnant soldier whose baby also perished. Hasan himself was paralyzed from the waist down after he was shot by civilian police Sergeant Mark Todd.
