This Animated Series Is Captivating Texas Audiences Young And Old
There’s a new sheriff in town, and she is wearing platform boots, slaying demons, and singing K-Pop bangers.
Korea is Crushing it in Central Texas
K-Pop Demon Hunters, is now the #1 most-streamed show in Texas, and if you’re a parent like me, you aren’t surprised in the slightest. My four-year-old daughter, Billie, found the show a couple of weeks ago, and I’ve now watched it so many times I speak fluent Korean. Well, at least I do when the subtitles are off and the beat drops.
What Is K-Pop Demon Hunters?
K-Pop Demon Hunters is an animated action-fantasy series about a girl group who secretly fights supernatural evil while touring as international pop stars. It’s like Sailor Moon meets Blackpink, but with a lot more glitter and just a tad more exorcisms. With bangers that stick in your head, wild action scenes, and sufficient pastel-colored chaos to hypnotize a small child or even a tired parent. K-Pop Demon Hunters is a hit.
How Many Times Have I Actually Watched It? I Don't Know.
We have watched the movie at least 20 times. I’m not just flipping my finger in the air and humming songs in the car. I’m performing them, choreography and all. My wife caught me last night making finger hearts and shouting "사랑해!" (I love you) while folding laundry. I have a problem.
Why Texans Love It
Maybe it's the underdog nature of the show, or it could be that we all need a break from the heat. No matter the reason, Texas is taking this over-the-top show to heart. Kids love the flashy action, and adults have convinced themselves they are only watching it "for the kids."
So congrats, K-Pop Demon Hunters; you have owned our screens, our playlists, and our subconscious. If you need a backup dancer, I know a dad in Central Texas that has been training for this.
