Legendary Comic and ‘Full House’ Star Bob Saget Dead at 65
Sad news to report, as beloved comedian, host, director, and Full House star Bob Saget has reportedly died in Orlando, Florida at age 65.
Bob Saget Reported Dead at 65
TMZ broke the news Sunday evening, reporting that Saget's body was discovered in his room at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. According to TMZ, first responders were called to the scene around 4 PM Eastern Time after security at the hotel reported finding his body.
A cause of death had not yet been released Sunday evening. A tweet from the Orange County Sheriff's Office indicated that a Robert Saget was found dead at the Ritz-Carlton, and that detectives found no signs of foul play or drug use.
Saget Was Touring
According to his Twitter feed, Saget had been touring with his standup act, and had performed at the Ponte Vedra Beach Concert Hall about two hours north of Orlando late Saturday night.
Star of Stage and Screen
After studying film at Temple University, Saget co-hosted The Morning Program on CBS before being cast as TV dad Danny Tanner on ABC's Full House - the role that would become his most iconic.
Two years later, he became the host of America's Funniest Home Videos.
His work on those family-friendly programs gave him a squeaky-clean public image which was in direct contrast with the deep blue work he did in stand-up comedy and the more mature roles and cameos he accepted in future films, including playing a comedic cocaine addict in the film Half Baked starring Dave Chappelle.
Bob Saget Directed One of My Favorite Comedies
In 1998, Bob Saget directed one of my all-time favorite comedies: Dirty Work starring the also recently deceased Norm Macdonald, along with former MadTV and Howard Stern alum Artie Lange.
While most people my age remember him most for his work on Full House and AMV, I'll always consider this woefully underappreciated gem Saget's finest work, even if he was behind the camera.
RIP Bob Saget
Whatever you remember him from, there's no denying Bob Saget was an immensely talented and funny performer and a big part of so many people's childhoods.
May he rest in peace.
