A woman from Kyle, Texas was sentenced for the brutal 2017 murder of her 5-year-old daughter.

According to a press release from the Hayes County District Attorney's Office, the two week trial of Krystle Villanueva, 27, has concluded with a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

On January 5, 2017, police in Kyle responded to a 911 call from the residence that Krystle Villanueva shared with her daughter Giovanna Hernandez, her father and his parents. Without warning, Villanueva stabbed her daughter's grandfather,  Eustorgio Arellano, in the head and back. After fleeing, Arellano called police and informed them of the incident and revealed that Villanueva's daughter was still in the home.

SWAT teams, crisis negotiators, and police surrounded the residence just as Villanueva revealed to 911 operators that she had killed her 5-year-old daughter because "she asked for cereal," and then proceeded to stab Arellano.

Once this information was relayed SWAT broke into the home and found that Giovanna, Villanueva's daughter, had been stabbed to death and decapitated. Villanueva was taken into custody after she was found freshly showered and nude.

Defense attorneys for Villanueva argued not guilty by reason of insanity, but the jury rejected the insanity defense and found Villanueva guilty for the capitol murder of a child under 10, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

In the eyes of the law, justice may have been served, but in our hearts, we know there are no reparations for the loss of Giovanna Villanueva, or any other innocent child.
