My Election Day Thoughts
I hate politics.
But no matter what your views are I won’t dislike you based on them.
Folks can get so divided and I hate to see it. I understand when someone doesn’t agree with what seems like common sense to you it can be extremely frustrating. But accept the fact that your heart being in the right place doesn’t mean the others aren’t as well.
I try to be as middle grounded as possible. I know and love people who are extreme left, right, up, and down. I have my leanings, but I’m simply not educated enough to go preaching my opinions. I stand for what I believe in, but try to keep an open mind to the idea that I could be wrong. I’ve been wrong a lot, easier to admit that now than in the moment.
Honestly, I don’t hate talking politics, because I love to listen and learn. I’ve heard compelling arguments from two different extremes and see the logic in both. That may sound like I’m wishy-washy and maybe you’re right, but I believe it’s because most people have good intentions and there are just many ways of approaching an issue. I’m told there’s a lot of ways to skin a cat, I only know of one, but hey it’s a saying for a reason, right?
We’re coming up on another election year where it’s far too easy to get worked up over something you see on Twitter or TV. Don’t let it get to you. Okay, neighbor Bob put up a sign in his front lawn, just think about the grand time y’all had at his barbecue last summer.
You may be the smartest person in the room, but you can still learn something from everyone else. Life is a meritocracy and everyone has something to give. I don't want to forget that.
Thanks for reading my political rant, don't worry one of few. I'll listen to you.
Ronnie Dunn says it best, in the end, we need three things "Peace, Love, and Country Music".
