Attention Harker Heights dog lovers: Paws in the Park happens Saturday, March 27 from 1-5p at Purser Family Park!

It's time for a little owner and dog bonding with Paws in the Park. It's true that man's best friend also like to be fancied up and showed off a bit so throw Fido in the tub, wash him or her up and head to Purser Family Park, 100 West Mountain Lion, for this family, and pet friendly free event.

Sara Gibbs with the City of Harker Heights tells us that there will be five different contests: Best Dressed, Best Dog Trick, Smallest Dog, Largest Dog and my favorite, a Dog & Owner Look-A-Like Contest.

There'll also be agility courses open all day and pet adoptions, plus pet services and vendors will be on hand selling their goods.

Let's go back to the dog and owner look alike contest. Isn't it strange that dogs and owners can actually look like each other? I wonder if it's owners looking like their dog or dogs looking like their owners, so I did some quick Google research and found this article from

According to the article, a psychologist named Sadahiko Nakajima looked into this strange phenomenon and did a experiment to see if strangers could pair dogs with their owners based only on photographs of their faces. 80% of people were able to do it correctly.

Other research finds that people typically pick their dog similarly to the way they pick their mate, looking for physical features as well as personality traits that closely resemble their own. Some even say that personalities of dogs and their owners may even be closer than those of married couples.

I got off subject a bit there, but I do find the dog and owner look alike to be a strange thing indeed.
