Waco Shelter Needs Dog Fosters While Crews Reseal The Kennel Floors

Many of us love furry babies and want nothing more than to help them find a forever home. Now, Central Texans have a chance to foster a pet while their temporary home gets much needed improvements.

Waco Animal Shelter Needs Central Texans' Help During Facility Upgrades

The Pet Circle Regional Animal Center is calling on Central Texans to temporarily open their hearts and homes to shelter dogs.According to KCEN, ongoing building improvements have restricted available kennel space, making our help vital to ensuring the safety and well-being of the animals.

Improvement Projects

Starting on Friday, July 17, renovation crews will begin a floor-resealing project inside the facility's primary intake zone. This specific area serves as the initial landing spot for lost pets, surrendered animals, and those rescued by local animal protection officers before they can transition to the public adoption floor.

Raising the Bar for Animal Sanitation

The primary objective of this floor renovation is to elevate overall sanitation and disinfection capabilities. Resealing the concrete surfaces ensures the facility can easily meet state-mandated health and safety guidelines for disinfecting animal environments. Because staff members rarely know what infectious diseases an incoming animal might have faced before arriving, having flooring that can be rapidly scrubbed, sanitized, and dried is an immense asset for protecting the entire shelter population.

Navigating the Construction Crunch

While crews are hard at work, the center’s available housing capacity will be drastically reduced. To keep operations manageable, the shelter is implementing a temporary weekend intake freeze, restricting new animal arrivals from Friday through Sunday over the next three consecutive weekends. To ensure that no homeless dogs are turned away while space is limited, the center is asking volunteers to take in foster dogs from the start of construction through August 3, when the upgrades are slated for completion.

Fostering Plays an Important Role

When you foster a dog or cat, you are helping to save the life of the animal you are fostering along with the incoming animal that is placed in the vacated kennel. Keeping the dog or cat in the home also allows the shelter to learn how the animal handles social situations and interactions with other pets in the home.

How to Get Involved

To make the transition as seamless as possible, Pet Circle is distributing donated crates, blankets, and pet beds to participating foster families while their inventory lasts. If you cannot foster a dog or cat, you can still help by donating blankets and crates to the shelter.
