According to the CDC there is a salmonella outbreak that is linked to pig ear dog treats. Save your pup and check your treats right away.

Currently there are 93 reported cases in the following 27 states: Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and West Virginia.

If you've recently purchased any pig ears stocked in open bins from Pet Supplies Plus, then dispose of them immediately! You'll want to to discard these treats in a secure container so that your pet and other animals can not eat them.

Do not feed these recalled pig ears to your pets even if you or your dog has not shown any signs of sickness previously. Be sure to wash and sanitize anything that may have come in contact with the recalled pig ears.

The CDC recommends the following tips to ensure you and your fur babies health:

  • Always wash your hands after handling dog treats and food.
  • Do not use the dog bowl to scoop food, you should have a dedicated scoop for dog food only.
  • Do not let your dog lick your face or mouth after eating. If your dog does lick you after eating, immediately wash the affected area with hot soap and water.

If you think you or your pet has been affected by the salmonella outbreak you can file a report with the CDC by visiting their Safety Reporting Portal.
