Scorpions that glow in the dark! Yikes!

Reminds me of the original Alien movie or a scene from Predator. That would be the Striped Bark Scorpion in the video above. They live all over Texas and glow when you put them under a UV light.

Lately, lots of Texans are reporting finding scorpions inside their home. A couple of things are to blame for this. The heat, the rain, and mostly the crickets!

There has been a cricket boom in Central Texas and if you are leaving your porch light on at night, then you're calling the crickets. By doing that, your also ringing the dinner bell for the striped bark scorpion along with others.

Scorpions don't like extreme heat and they don't like rain since it washes out their hiding places. This makes hanging around your house a good alternative for them. Want them to go elsewhere? Keep your yard and bushes trim and get rid of anything like firewood that may be hanging around on the porch. Make sure you plug up any holes in the screen door also. If you get stung by a scorpion, apply ice on the wound and seek medical attention if you have trouble breathing or have an allergic reaction to the sting.
