Awarded to the songwriter(s), publisher(s) and artist(s) behind a tune, Song of the Year is a highly sought-after award at the ACM Awards, with some fierce competition in 2019. The category's 2018 champion was Miranda Lambert's "Tin Man," a standout heartbreak ballad written by Lambert along with Jon Randall and Jack Ingram; this year, the contenders are equally worthy.

Cole Swindell's bittersweet "Break Up in the End," written by Jessie Jo Dillon, Chase McGill and Jon Nite, was a fan favorite coast-to-coast in 2018, while Chris Stapleton's "Broken Halos," written by Mike Henderson and Stapleton, won the 2018 CMA Song of the Year and Single of the Year honors, and scored Stapleton and Henderson a Grammys trophy for Best Country Song.

Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line's record-breaking crossover collaboration, "Meant to Be," was written by David Garcia, Tyler Hubbard, Joshua Miller and Rexha and, no small wonder, is in the running for Song of the Year at the 2019 ACM Awards. Additionally, "Space Cowboy," Kacey Musgraves' soaring heartbreak tune, written by Luke Laird, Shane McAnally and Musgraves, is up for the honor.

"Tequila" garnered Dan + Shay enough attention to warrant them Grammy Awards nominations, so the tune, written by Nicolle Galyon, Jordan Reynolds and Dan Smyers, is a tough contender in this category. "Yours," meanwhile, launched Russell Dickerson to the top of the charts and kicked off his career; he wrote the song with Casey Brown and Parker Welling.
