An altercation at a south Austin gas station on Wednesday, November 13th, 2024, resulted in the tragic death of a man who was stabbed during the incident. The Austin Police Department responded quickly to the scene, which was located at the gas station in the 7800 block of First Street.

According to Cpl. Matthew Nonweiler of the Austin Police Department, the first 911 calls came in at around 4:17 p.m. reporting that a man had been stabbed. Police officers arrived shortly after and found the victim bleeding heavily in the parking lot of the gas station. Medical personnel were quickly called to the scene and transported the man to a nearby hospital. Despite the best efforts of emergency responders, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

As the situation unfolded, officers detained a person at the scene who is believed to have been involved in the altercation. However, at this time, authorities have not confirmed the relationship between the victim and the suspect, or what led to the deadly confrontation. Investigators are still working to piece together the circumstances surrounding the stabbing.

This marks the 60th homicide in Austin for 2024. In comparison, the city experienced 73 homicides in 2023, 71 in 2022, and 88 in 2021. While there has been a slight decrease in homicides this year compared to previous years, violent crime continues to be a significant concern for local authorities. The police department is actively working to address these crimes and prevent further violence.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact the Austin Police Department at 512-974-8477. The investigation into this tragic event remains ongoing.
