Subway Closing 500 U.S. Restaurants, Expanding Overseas
Subway is about to close 500 U.S. locations in favor of opening new locations overseas according to USA Today.
It's all part of a new strategy to target areas seen as more profitable and cut costs at home. These areas include Germany, India, and China. The news follows the closing of more than 800 Subway location in the U.S. in 2016.
According to the sandwich companies website, Subway says it's the largest food chain in the world with some 44,000 locations in 112 countries. The company says they can not provide a list of locations that may be closing because all of its stores are franchise-operated. The decision to close will be left up to local operators.
Shout-out to all our local Subway stores. We sure appreciate Y'all listening!
