What Town Dares To Challenge Temple, Texas As Wildflower Capital?
Did you know that Temple, Texas is recognized as the Wildflower Capital of Texas? The title has been used for generations to describe our amazing scenery. Other people pay big decorator money to just get a taste of the aesthetic we enjoy daily in spades. If you're interested in planting wildflowers, click here.
One of the best things about Temple in addition to having all these gorgeous wildflower fields, is that you're never more than about 20 minutes from anywhere in Bell County. What's the point of having so many great things to experience if it is practically impossible to visit, or a pain to access?
Is there really another town that tries to claim Wildflower Capital of Texas?
Believe it or not, there was another place in Texas that was so desperate to be called "Wildflower Capital of Texas," they actually took legal action. OK, maybe it didn't quite go down like that, but the state government did get involved. Surprisingly, it's not Flower Mound.
According to this article in the Victoria Advocate, DeWitt County, Texas received recognition as the "Wildflower Capital of Texas," in 1999 via a resolution in the Texas House of Representatives.
Since that was nearly 25 years ago, my hope is that resolution has expired by now. However, even if they gained lifetime status with the resolution, Texas really knows who's the true "Wildflower Capital of Texas."

If we need to settle this with a bouquet beatdown, Mustang Ridge is about 1/2 way to DeWitt. So, take your antihistamine, and bring your box of tissues because some tears are about to be shed.
