ALERT: New Law In Texas Allows You To Ask Companies To Do This

The growth of technology in Texas is astounding.

It's difficult to believe, but how handle things ten years ago is different from the current due to its expansion. In fact, people can get online anywhere these days, as long as their phone allows it.

What some people don't realize is that some websites collect data while we're browsing. What do these companies with our personal data? Some might sell it, which is a worrying thought.

But, thanks to a new law passed in Texas, one in the state can outright tell a company to remove their data.

Law In Texas Gives Residents A Chance To Remove Their Personal Data Online

Per Houston Public Media, the law went into effect on July 1st. The law gives the power to Texans to ask companies about the data they've collected about said resident. Texans are able to get said data in a format that is easy to read.

Once the individual receives the data in question, they can either suggest changes to collected data, or ask for its complete removal. University of Houston Law Professor, Nikolas Guggenberger, provided an example to Houston Public Media about how the data is used:

“They might go out to data brokers and say, ‘Hey, I need granular data market analysis of, I don’t know, Houstonians that use fitness studios on Saturday mornings...So they go out and buy that data from third parties or get it from third parties in exchange for other services.”
