Can I just say that being a mail carrier in Texas has to be about the toughest job when you consider how much of your work is done under the blazing sunlight every day?

Over the last couple of decades in Austin especially, the job has gotten very challenging as the city continues to turn into a concrete jungle with almost no shade anywhere to provide relief.
Why are thieves targeting the mail so much in Texas?
Honestly, it is hard enough to put your faith in the delivery of your mail to begin with, and it is not just the United States Postal Service that is dealing with a crime spree because porch pirates are everywhere constantly awaiting an opportunity to strike after a home delivery.

According to this KVUE article, the city of Austin released a note just last week that mail theft increased by almost a third from 2022 to 2023, and the 2024 numbers are not promising that the issue is going to go away on its own. There is a new law going into effect on September 1st that widens the definition and penalty for mail theft, but that is not likely going to work too much as a deterrent.
