Texas Commercial for More Film Production in the Lone Star State
Alright, Alright, Alright, Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson are back together in a new ad campaign, and this time, they’re solving a mystery of epic proportions. How can they get Hollywood studios to leave Los Angeles and move their productions to Texas. In a new ad campaign that plays off their intense, brooding energy from True Detective, the two Hollywood legends team up for a slow-burn, cinematic commercial that’s equal parts dramatic and hilarious.
The ad, which features McConaughey’s signature philosophical musings and Harrelson’s laid-back sarcasm, mainly takes place in car driven by Harrelson through the Texas desert. McConaughey is riding shotgun as Dennis Quaid sits in the back seat. Matthew and Woody contemplate life, destiny, and the perfect sales pitch while they take a ride down dusty Texas highway.
Adding even more Texas star power, Dennis Quaid, Billy Bob Thornton, and Renee Zellweger make surprise appearances. The all-star cast does a good job of explaining how the incentives given to the Hollywood studios don't just benefit the corporations. The incentives to the studios provide an opportunity for local businesses and employees. McConaughey points out that for every dollar spent on the incentive it puts four dollars back into Texas economy.
I love the possibility of more cinematic work moving to the Lone Store state. Places like Georgia, South Carolina, and Oklahoma have all shown the benefits of providing incentives for film production. Being the largest of the Lower 48 states, Texas has a very diverse landscape that would offer a wide range of backdrops for movies across every genre.
