Many are gearing up this weekend for Mardi Gras in Central Texas happening on Tuesday, February 21st. There are plenty of ways to have fun this weekend in Killeen-Temple in the spirit of, "Laissez les bon temps rouler." Others have something else entirely they're looking to celebrate.

What else besides King Cake is there to eat?

Fat Tuesday is sharing its spotlight with National Pancake Day. So, it should not surprise you that this weekend will be the annual Harker Heights Kiwanis Club Pancake Supper. Last time I attended a pancake supper, it was immediately following football practice my senior year of high school. Believe my record of 67 buckwheat flapjacks still stands to this day.

Why are the Harker Heights Kiwanis Hosting a pancake supper?

This is the 51st Harker Heights Kiwanis Pancake Supper. Each year it is used as a community fund raiser. All proceeds benefit children's programs and high school student scholarships. This is a win win for everyone. If your kids are like mine, they love brinner, and knowing you're helping the community while having your favorite family meal is goals.

When will the pancake feast begin?

The fundraising meal will be inside the Harker Heights Elementary School Cafeteria from 5:30-8p this Saturday, February 18th. The menu also includes bacon, coffee, tea, juice, and milk. It isn't mentioned, but thinking syrup will probably be available too.

What about additional entertainment?

Lots of door prizes will be handed out during the evening, and you never know, maybe someone will go for a record.
