A Texas prosecutor was shot execution style Thursday morning in the city of Kaufman, near Dallas.

As detail continue to surface, authorities believe one or two gunmen wearing masks, black clothing and military-style vests shot and killed the county prosecutor.

The victim, Mark E. Hasse, was shot several times this morning around 9 a.m. as he walked through an employee parking lot about a block away from the courthouse. Hasse worked in the Kaufman County district attorney's office, outside Dallas.

Police say the suspect or suspects were driving a Ford Taurus. The gunmen shot Hasse several times, returned to the car and quickly fled the scene.

Authorities are currently going through cases that Hasse and prosecutor's officer were working on and looking for connections.

According to the New York Times, one case in particular sticks out:

Kaufman County prosecutors have been involved in investigations of the Aryan Brotherhood of Texas prison gang. In November, federal officials in Houston thanked a number of local agencies for their work — including Kaufman County prosecutors — when more than 30 senior leaders and other members of the gang were indicted on federal racketeering charges.
