The City Of Killeen Is Offering Utilities Assistance During This Pandemic
Back in March, the United States Congress approved the CARES ACT, which is the coronavirus aid relief and economic security act providing $2.2 trillion to American businesses and citizens that were negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Now some of that money has reached Killeen.
On Tuesday, the City of Killeen announced via a news release that it will be providing financial assistance for citizens who need help paying their utilities.
The press release states that qualified applicants must be Killeen residents who have experienced loss of employment, reduction in hours of employment, furlough, inability to work because of quarantine, or a related situation resulting from COVID-19.
Funding is limited and will be granted on a first come, first serve basis.
The utility assistance will be provided for expenses incurred from March 27 and after. These funds will be credited directly to your utility account if you apply and are deemed eligible. The funds will not be used for charges or late fees prior to March 27, so keep that mind.
"The maximum assistance available is $300 or up to six consecutive months of utilities, whichever is less," City of Killeen Executive Director of Communications Hilary J. Shine wrote. "Payment will be applied directly to the utility account."
Go here for the application online, or visit the Utility Collections Office located at 210 W. Avenue C. to fill out a physical copy. Once it’s complete, it will be reviewed and verified and applicants will be notified via email or phone call if they've qualified.
Again, these funds will be available on a first come, first serve basis, so don't procrastinate. Get on it!
