Over the weekend, I went to Billy Bob's in Fort Worth to see one of my favorite bands from the '90s. In 1994, Toadies released their debut studio album Rubberneck, and I it became the soundtrack of my life for the next 2 years.

Rubberneck reached #56 on the Billboard 200, and the single "Possum Kingdom" reached #4 on the Billboard US Alternative Airplay chart and #40 on the Billboard Radio Songs chart. Rubberneck attained platinum status by the end of 1996. A major part of the album's success was that it didn't sound like every other grunge band that followed Nirvana in the 90s. Toadies sound was a mixture of hard rock, punk, and grunge all in one, and it made them standout compared to all of the other cookie cutter alternative bands at the time.

The lead singer, Todd Lewis, has a powerful voice that is loud, strong, and captivating. Thirty years after the release of Rubberneck, Lewis (who is 59), hasn't lost a step on his voice. He's still hitting those higher power octaves that give Toadies their unique sound.

Their Drummer, Mark Reznicek, is the only other original member of the band in the current lineup, and he looks more like a rock drummer's granddad than a rock drummer himself. Listening to him set the beat and pace of the show made it clear that he is still as rock and roll as he has ever been.

The venue, Billy Bob's, calls itself the world's largest Honky Tonk, and don't have any evidence to prove otherwise. It has a 1,900-person capacity, several bars, ten pool tables, and an indoor bull riding rodeo. I think that I would have had an amazing time even if I wasn't there to see one of my favorite bands. As it was, the concert and the venue ended up giving me one unforgettable night.
