Texas Has One of Nation’s Top College Football Mascots: Which Is Best?
Who doesn't love mascots? They make the game fun, give comic relief, and encourage team spirit in the crowd while entertaining fans of all ages.
There are a lot of great sports mascots across the country, but a new list puts an iconic Texas image at the top of the heap, beating out well-known mascots from some of the most notable programs in college football.

Riley Gates of 247Sports has ranked 14 of the best mascots in college football for 2022, and the Lone Star State made the list, but had only one mascot in the ranking. (Hint: Sorry Aggies! It wasn't Reveille from Texas A&M.)
Along with the icon from Texas, other mascots that were ranked as the best in the country included Alabama’s Big Al, Colorado’s Ralphie the Buffalo, Georgia’s UGA, LSU’s Mike the Tiger, and the Notre Dame Leprechaun.

Recently, Baylor University's live bear mascot Joy made the news for a sad reason: she passed away earlier this month after 21 years on campus. Her sister bear Lady has been on campus since 2002, and currently resides in the Bill and Eva Williams Bear Habitat.
Some college football mascots in the Lone Star State that didn't make the top 14 include: Texas State University's Boko the Bobcat, Texas A&M's Reveille, Rice University's Sammy the Owl, and Scrappy the Eagle from the University of North Texas.

At least the mascot that made the list was from Central Texas! Bevo, the University of Texas at Austin's mascot, was one of the top 14 college football mascots across the country for 2022, according to Riley Gates. See the full list of top mascots here.
