Not gonna lie, I'm kinda surprised to see two Texas cities make the top 10 list for best cities to drive in.

Maybe I should say I'm pleasantly surprised to see not one, but two Texas cities make the top 10 because my experience driving in Texas hasn't always been so friendly. I deal with aggressive drivers almost every time I hit the road in Temple, Killeen, and Waco. Mostly it's those who drive on I-35, but there are times when even the neighborhood streets can be a trial in patience.

But, I'm not the one putting together this list.

That would be our friends at WalletHub, who looked at 30 different factors of driver-friendliness in areas like cost of ownership and maintenance, traffic and infrastructure, safety, and access to vehicles and maintenance in the top 100 cities in the U.S.

Gas prices, annual hours of traffic delays, cost of a new car, average commute time and more went into their decision making, and once you add it all up, Raleigh, North Carolina tops their list as the best city to drive in with a score of 67.52. For what it's worth, Laredo, Texas is tops for safety.

Here are the top 10 cities according to WalletHub:

1. Raleigh, NC
2. Lincoln, NE
3. Greensboro, NC
4. Winston-Salem, NC
5. Corpus Christi, TX
6. Boise, ID
7. Jacksonville, FL
8. Scottsdale, Arizona
9. Tampa, FL
10. Austin, TX

On the flipside, Oakland, California is the worst city to drive in, scoring just a 34.20, and landing at the very bottom for cost of ownership and in the bottom ten for safety.
When it comes to traffic and infrastructure, New York, New York is at the bottom of the barrel.

Ten Worst Cities To Drive In according to WalletHub:

1. Oakland, CA
2. Detroit, MI
3. San Francisco, CA
4. Philadelphia, PA
5. New York, NY
6. Chicago, IL
7. Los Angeles, CA
8. Baltimore, MD
9. Washington, DC
10. San Bernardino, CA

I can't really judge Corpus Christi because I've never driven through there, but I have driven through Austin many times. I've always prided myself on being a calm driver even in the worst conditions, but driving in Austin brings me to the edge of my sanity. That's why I'm kinda surprised to see them in the top 10 and not the bottom.
