It's not always rainbows and butterflies in the great state of Texas. Sometimes it's rats and rodents too.

According to My San Antonio, Orkin has released its annual "20 Rattiest Cities" report,  which is determined by the total number of treatments (commercial and residential) conducted in U.S. metro areas between Sept. 2020 and Sept. 2021, and it looks like two Texas cities have made the list.

But before we get to those cities, let's take a look at the top 5.

In at number five is San Francisco. San Fran is one of the most expensive cities in the world, so I can only assume these rats live high on the hog and just refuse to leave.

City number four on the list is Washington D.C. Now, before you make some joke about how our nation's capital is full of rats and should be at number one, rest assured I agree with you. However, for the purposes of this list, D.C. is also full of the actual rodents we call rats.

New York places third once again this year. These New York City rats are some bad rodents for sure. The greatest city in the world is slowly being overwhelmed by rats!

Los Angeles holds on to the second most rattiest city, and it's not because it's the home of the Dodgers and Lakers. Maybe these rats are just waiting for their big break in Hollywood.

Finishing first on Orkin's list once again, and for the seventh consecutive year, is Chicago. Yep, there isn't enough wind to blow the rats out of the windy city. Maybe if Chicagoans were shooting rats instead of each other, they could rid their city of rats altogether.

As for the Texas cities that made the top 20, Houston landed at 18 and Dallas at 20.

According to Orkin, this past year has been one for the history books because the pandemic forced so many restaurant closures. The rats apparently couldn't do their usual restaurant dumpster diving, so they spread out to scavenge in new territory, thus increasing their visibility.

If you live near any restaurants that have closed recently, tuck your pants into your socks!
