Could Walmart Self-Checkouts Be Going Away In Texas?

When we go shopping in Texas, there's a lot we have to deal with.

Let's be real with each other, something is always going to be forgotten that we need. We may forget the shopping list, or the list was brought but we forget the one most important item we need. Safe to say, it's always annoying when that mistake is made.

But the one thing nobody likes? Long checkout lines. They always happen at the most inconvenient time as well, when we're rushing to get somewhere too. But thankfully, self-checkouts exist.

These wonderful machines let us bag and pay for our own items, and leave with little worry if we forgot something. But, is there a chance in Texas, self-checkouts could become harder to use soon?

Walmart Putting Self-Checkouts As A Part Of Subscription Service?

As reported by Today, recently sightings of self-checkout areas being blocked off have popped up:

In addition, another photo of the limiting of a self-checkout area was taken and shown on Reddit. The picture, showing a notice that the area is only to be used by "Spark and Walmart+" customers. So, some are worried that this might be coming to the Lone Star State.

As to if it will, the answer simply depends on the amount of shoppers in the store. Today spoke to the Senior Manager of Corporate Communications at Walmart, Kelsey Bohl, to see what could cause closures of the area:

"From time-to-time, our stores adjust the use of staffed checkouts and self-checkouts. For example, a store might start or end the day with staffed checkouts. As the number of shoppers and associate staffing increases, these stores open self-checkout registers to manage the increased customer flow."

Bohl further elaborated that "Store managers have the autonomy to make decisions about what is best for their specific store in their area, for their customers." So it seems like self-checkouts in Texas may be open or closed depending on what time you shop!
