Working Women Wednesday: Kudos to Ms. Redd
The month of March is Women's History Month. In fact, it's officially official: March is designated Women's History Month by Presidential proclamation. The month is set aside to honor women's contributions to American history.
Women's history month started as Women's history week in Santa Rosa, California, but it's great to have seen it grown into a month of national recognition.
So I should spotlight a phenomenal woman today.
Demetria Meeks, aka Ms. Redd, was born and raised in Austin, Texas. She is a faithful St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church member. Growing up, she went to Black Shear elementary, Pearce Jr. High, and several high schools in the Austin area.
Ms. Redd worked at Martin House Daycare for 13 years before she transitioned her career working for the State of Texas in 2000, and she is still employed there.
She has two wonderful kids, a son and a daughter, and a new grandbaby that she loves to watch.
She told me when the pandemic started and shut down everything that she took it upon herself to start her own business called "Fabulously by Redd" to have some type of income coming in.
She plans on making it her sole income one day, and she stated, "I know this may not happen overnight, so I keep pushing myself by getting involved in pop-up shops just to get my business name out there."
With all the many hats Ms. Redd wears, she also babysits our 18-month-old when she has free time. Our son absolutely loves Ms. Redd and is always so happy to see her.
Ms. Redd is the most loving, caring, hardworking woman, I know besides my wife.
You go, Ms. Redd!
