History

The only reasonable place for the world's largest Bowie knife to be located is in Bowie, Texas of course. We all know things are bigger in Texas, but WOW did the city really go all out for this design.

The largest Bowie knife measures 6.24 m (20 ft 6 in) long, and was achieved by the Bowie Chamber of Commerce, in Bowie Texas on April 8, 2016.

The idea came from a local rancher and bronze sculptor by the name of Bob Hadley. Chamber board members Bryan Brown and Van Baize believed in the project and with the help of a few contributors, the idea was able to be brought to life.

According to Atlanta cutlery the knife's handle was constructed from Bodark tree and the whole things weighs about 3000 lbs. The blade itself is 14 feet 5 inches in length and made purely from steel.

The Official Knife of Texas

Believe it or not, it was just this year in May that Governor Abbott declared the Bowie knife as the official knife of Texas. I guess it's a good thing that the folks in Bowie were already ahead of the game.

The Holidays Are Here

Of course since the Bowie knife is so important to not only the residents of Bowie, but all of the Lonestar state, the knife had to be decorated in preparation for the holidays.

Its definitely not something you see everyday, but it sure does scream Texas.

The larger than life knife is now decked with greenery and beautiful lights. Happy holidays Texas!
