Year Long Renovations at Central Texas State Cemetery Nearly Complete
KCEN-TV reports that renovations to the Central Texas State Cemetery are nearly complete! The project began about 1 year ago.
In 2006, the Veterans Land Board took over the cemetery and made plans to have the site renovated so that they could better honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
Doug Gault is the Chief On-Site representative at the cemetery and told KCENTV, "It's our honor to make sure these hallowed grounds are dignified for the families when they come here".
Included in the renovations are improvements to one of the scattering gardens which is in place if a family decides they'd like to scatter a loved one's ashes. Wind screens have been added to areas where services take place, and the sidewalks that lead to the graves have been improved as well.
Services usually held at the cemetery have been moved for the upcoming Memorial Day Weekend to the Killeen Civic and Conference Center because of the unfinished work. Storms delayed the completion of the projects according to Gault. Memorial Day services will begin at the Civic and Conference center at 10am on May 29th.
