Temple Fire and Rescue got a call Tuesday for what would be their 12th rescue this year of a child locked in a car. The incident happened around 10:30 in the morning that day so luckily the child was free before the intense afternoon heat set in. The child was found locked in a car in the parking lot of McLane's Children's Hospital Scott and White.

The child was checked out by Scott & White EMS. The mother had accidentally locked her keys in the car and ran into a store for help. Temple police did not say how long the child was in the car.

Back on July 10th, 2-year-old Lela Petrarca of Temple died after she was found locked in a car. Since her autopsy results have not been made official yet, she isn't counted as part of the 12 reported cases in 2016.

If you see a child struggling alone inside a locked vehicle, the best plan is to dial 9-1-1. If you are a parent, do not leave your child in the car.
