5 Tropical Cyclones in Atlantic Tie Record Set 49 Years Ago
This morning was one for the record books.
According to the National Weather Service, 5 tropical cyclones were detected in the Atlantic Basin on Monday, September 14. It's the first time this has happened since 1971.
One of the cyclones escalated into Hurricane Sally, which was already causing damage along the Gulf Coast Monday night.
CBS News reports that Sally could drop up to 16 inches of rainfall in areas of Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana.. Winds of up to 111 mph were expected as the storm prepared to make landfall.
