75th Anniversary of Fort Hood Coming in September
Fort Hood began as a WW II training site in 1942 and has become one of the most notable Army posts in the world.
As reported by the Killeen Daily Herald, Fort Hood's 75 Anniversary is coming up September 18th. Known as "Camp Hood" in 1942, the post has had an impact on all our Bell County communities.
Today, some 36,000 troops and their families live on Fort Hood or in the surrounding communities of Killeen, Copperas Cove, and Harker Heights.
Military staff, their families, and civilians make up about 61,000 Texas residents who live or work on the post. When you think about residents who are retirees or people who use the hospital, Fort Hood is part of the lives of nearly 385,000 people each year according to the Killeen Daily Herald.
Jackie Robinson and Elvis Presley called Fort Hood home at one time, along with countless others serving our country. Look for the KDH to publish a magazine featuring Fort Hood just in time for the anniversary on September 17th.
