While Texas Senator Ted Cruz was vacationing in Cancun, US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez raised $5 million to support relief efforts in Texas.



According to a tweet from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, $5 million was raised for Texans after the state was devastated by harsh winter storm conditions.

 Over 4 million Texans faced a loss of power and/or water. Grocery store shelves were emptied as Texans attempted to supply provisions for their families. Roads were icy and dangerous and wreaked havoc across the state. Texans bundled together for warmth, and some died from hypothermia, while others passed from carbon monoxide poisoning states the NY Post.

All the while, Ted Cruz was boarding a plane to Cancun to vacation with his family. Our Texas Senator chose not to stand with his state or even country.

The worst part is that he decided to shift the blame to his two daughters, ages 10 and 12. In an exclusive interview with ABC 13 Cruz admits that the trip was a mistake and tried his best to express regret and remorse. For many of us, the damage is done.

Reiterating once more, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez stepped up to the plate for her fellow Americans and jumped into action to help. Meanwhile Ted Cruz left at a time where we needed Texas leadership most.
