Arkansas Bridge to be Renamed in Honor of Maleah Davis

Residents in Texas and Arkansas continue to mourn the loss of Maleah Davis, a 4-year-old girl from the Houston area whose remains were found on the side of I-30 near Fulton, Arkansas back in May.

The Arkansas Highway Commission recently gave unanimous approval to rename the Hempstead County bridge in honor of Maleah. As planning continues for her memorial, this is another step that helps people in both states to try and heal after this awful and senseless murder. News 10 shared the update from Sheriff James Singleton who reported Maleah's remains were found on the side of the road within 500 feet of the Hempstead County Bridge this spring.

The bridge will be called the "Maleah Davis Memorial Bridge". Sheriff Singleton says the representatives in the county want to remember Maleah and offer a reminder to parents to keep their young babies close by. The Department of Transportation in Arkansas usually has a much longer waiting period for naming requests but in this instance, the approval came quickly and unanimously.

The state of Arkansas will pay for the design and purchase of the new signs that will go on the bridge.
