
Belton Inmate Now Free With ‘Count of Monte Cristo’ Escape
Belton, Texas and the Bell County Jail is dealing with a recent escape that sounds like it came right out of the Alexandre Dumas classic, The Count of Monte Cristo. Central Texas has been moving pretty quickly over the last decade and with all the transient visitors that stop over in our local communities like Killeen, Temple, and Belton etc., coupled with all of the new faces that are moving in permanently, you are quite honestly surprised we do not hear about more epic escapes like this more often.

If you are not familiar with the escape on The Count of Monte Cristo, the inmate Edmond Dantes poses as the recently deceased body of Abbé Faria, and is tossed into the ocean to secure his freedom by swimming to shore from an island prison similar to Alcatraz. Well, according to this KCEN article, Nicole Adele Gaffney was booked into the Bell County Jail only to pretend about an hour later to be an inmate due to be released.

I am not going to lie, the move is pretty dang smooth and one that has been made in one version or another since the beginning of incarceration. I really want to know what did Gaffney offer the other prisoner to stay as her, and was what was promised anywhere close to being a reward worthy of the risk?
