Belton, Texas has had a couple of very big days recently with the announcement of a new Amazon facility, and the launching of the Central Texas Water Alliance where Texas State Representatives Hillary Hickland, Brad Buckley, and other Central Texas legislators met to share details for addressing the potential water shortage for generations to come.

Belton is positioned directly between two major reservoirs that have served the area well for decades, but nowhere in the country is growing like the 150 mile stretch along Interstate 35 from the Bell County line through Belton, and past downtown San Antonio. With this massive growth, Texas communities and major metro areas like SA and Austin are learning that we will depend on each other to make sure the water does not run dry.

Protecting Our Water: Belton Hosts Key Central Texas Water Alliance Meeting

According to this KCEN article, one of the first moves that will need to be made is finding ways to better preserve the water that is in Belton Lake and Stillhouse Hollow. As much as 40% of clean water often just disappears because of old infrastructure and piping that has been in place in many areas since the 1950s.

Obviously we all need water to survive, so protecting and improving our supply is paramount. Also, economically, having an ample supply will lead to further business and industrial growth that in turn will allow for not only more jobs, but also higher paying career options for all of us.
