The Best Comedians for Black History Month. One Texan Better Than All

Standup comedy is a very difficult industry to make it big in. I've been performing comedy for aver 17 years now, and I have yet to make it to the level of success that i am striving to achieve. One of the ways that I worked on improving my standup over the years was by watching those that came before me and learning from my peers as well.

Being a white guy from the South I was naturally drawn to comedians like Ron White, Larry the Cable Guy, and Jeff Foxworthy. I never wanted to be a carbon copy of someone that I might share a common experience with, though, so I also studied comedians that came from different backgrounds and cultures that I experienced in my life.

Some of the biggest names in comedy from the beginning have been black standups. In celebration of Black History Month here are a few of my favorite Black Comedians.

Katt Willimas

Katt Williams, a Texas native, has certainly had personal issues throughout his life, but he is undeniably one of the funniest comedians to ever hold a microphone. The Pimp Chronicles is a must-see for any fan of comedy.

Chris Tucker

Not only is Chris Tucker one of the funniest comedic actors in Hollywood, but he is also a hilarious standup up comedian. Tucker has one of the most distinctive voices in comedy.

Kevin Hart

Kevin has gone from being the comedian that was constantly roasted by his peers like Patrice O'Neal and Keith Robinson to a Hollywood giant.

Michael Che

The SNL Weekend Update anchor has become the best part of the weekly live sketch show on NBC. Che was even the Head writer for the show for 5 years.

Chris Rock

If there was ever a Mount Rushmore to standup comedians, then Chris Rock would definitely be on it. Rock is one of the most influential comedians of the modern era, and he is so precise in his writing and performance that watching any of his specials is akin to watching a masterclass on the art of Standup Comedy.
