There's still plenty of summer left to take advantage of, and if you're looking for some road trip ideas, here are the top 3 route to take in Texas according to Google Trends.
There is so much to do and see in our state that no matter what direction you choose to go, you'll find something to scratch your adventure itch. That said, if you want to road trip on a highly ranked path, this list could be for you.
I know from experience that driving through Texas can take all day. As someone who has traveled through our great state more times than I can count, I always find it crazy that I can leave in the early morning hours and still be driving when the sun sets, and still be in Texas.
Road Tripping in Texas
Texas consistently lands at the top, or near the top, of the list on Wallethub's annual "Best States for Summer Road Trips" list and this year Texas finished third on the list.
If you're planning a road trip and looking for some ideas, The Katy News listed three possibilities that sound almost perfect once you get to your starting point. Let's take a look.
Mineral Wells South to Marble Falls
This is a 3 1/2 hour drive that gives you plenty of time to make some stops along the way. The Baker Hotel is said to be a must see. If you want to get a taste of tiny town living, Hico is a quick detour off the path. Save some time to visit Hancock Springs Park in Lampasas. Take a dip in the oldest swimming pool, fed by pure spring water before finishing your trip in Marble Falls. So much to do in Marble Falls you may make plans to stay a day or three.
From Georgetown South to San Antonio
This is a quick trip once you reach Georgetown. Just under two hours of drive time south to San Antonio you may want to give yourself some extra time to enjoy each city on this trip. Start with Inner Space Cavern in Georgetown then enjoy the day and see what this beautiful city has to offer before heading out.
If you love to swim, there are several great must see swimming holes to visit along the way including the Blue Hole lagoon, Barton Springs, and San Marcos Springs. Of course, once you hit San Antonio you'll definitely want to spend a couple of days enjoying the River Walk, The Alamo and everything else the city has to offer.
Get Your Kicks on Route 66
Ever driven the historic Route 66? This section is short but worth the visit. Shamrock to Glenrio, hit it in either direction. Amarillo has some fun to offer along the way but you'll for sure want to stop and see The Cadillac Ranch. 10 cars half buried in the Texas desert is a must see. Grab a bite at the 1950s style-diner called the Midpoint Café and Gift Shop. Other stops to visit are the Vega Motel and Dot’s mini museum.
