Across the United States, people are finding ways both big and small to show support and gratitude for the men and women battling the COVID-19 outbreak in hospitals and care facilities. This week, it was announced that the Navy Blue Angels and the Air Force Thunderbirds will honor healthcare workers in their own unique way.

President Trump this week announced that pilots will be performing flyovers across the U.S. as part of Operation America Strong. Diana Stancy Correll with the Military Times reports that the operation was "the brainchild of service members", and the Pentagon has been working on a plan for these flyovers for some time.

Trump called healthcare workers "equal warriors to those incredible pilots and all of the fighters that we have for the more traditional fights that we win", and said that if the U.S. wants to win, we always win. He recognized that health workers are "fiercely running toward the fight".

A senior military official cited by the Military Times and the Washington Post said the flyovers were a "sincere thank-you".

Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio are on the tour schedule. Exact dates are not yet available.

Personally, I can't think of a higher honor than being thanked and saluted by members of our armed forces.

If you'd like to be a part of our upcoming salutes to hometown heroes, nominate a hero here. We'll be giving them shout-outs and thanks on the air to honor them for their service to their communities and families.
