UPDATE: Charges Not Dropped Against Brownsville, Texas ISD Student

Last month, a story about a young student from Brownsville, Texas was placed in solitary confinement was reported. Many questions were raised as to why the young child, Timothy Murray, was placed there. Now, there's an update regarding the situation.

First, we'll recap the events that led to the arrest of Timothy.

Events Preceding The Arrest

According to the Texas Observer, Murray had alleged bullying from his principal Myrta Garza. Garza alleged actions included scolding Murray about a dress code, which the Observer could not find evidence of the school having one. After Murray sent an email in regards to the situation, Murray then was taken out from his music class on September 8th, for the reported reason of making a terroristic threat, as reported by the Texas Observer.

Murray then, as stated by the The Texas Observer, was taken to the Darrell B. Hester Juvenile Detention Center, and placed in solitary confinement for three days. Murray's mother had hoped for the charges to be dismissed.

However, recent developments have shown the charges aren't going to go away.

Update On Charges Against Murray

In a new report from the Texas Observer, Cameron County District Attorney Rene Garza requested more time to for retrieving more evidence. The Texas Observer reports that a new incident involving Murray was brought to their attention.

In the reported event, Murray was alleged, by another student, to have pulled a student's hair and attempted to cut their finger with scissors. The Texas Observer reports that Murray apologized for the hair pulling, but stated to the principal of Canales Elementary, where he was transferred to, he did not intend to cut the unidentified student's finger, rather he was pretending to cut their paper.

As the time of writing, a new hearing for Murray has been planned for February 14th. Murray's mom, Nadia Rincon, has been given permission to homeschool her child. As this is a developing story, we will have more information if it becomes available.
